Afternoon Tea and Debate
As part of our enrichment and competition opportunities, students have the chance to take part in an Afternoon Tea and Debate. All year groups can submit entries arguing, for or against a set social, moral, spiritual or cultural question.
Questions that have been debated include:
- Who is responsible for the reduction in knife crime in London?
- Some of the best things in life are free or, can your life only be good if you have a lot of money?
- Are computer and video games really harmful for young people?
The winning entries are hosted for afternoon tea by Mr Giles, where students argue their point of view on the given topic. At the end of the session each debater votes to decide, which of them made the best contribution to developing the discussion.
The 2017-2018 finalists enjoyed a scrumptious afternoon tea at the De Vere Selsdon Estate.
