Parent Partnership

Collaborating with parents as a secondary school is essential for fostering a supportive educational environment. By maintaining open lines of communication, we can better understand each student's unique needs and provide tailored support. Engaging parents through regular updates, meetings, and school events helps build a strong partnership, ensuring students receive consistent encouragement both at home and in school. Together, we create a cohesive community that prioritises student well-being, academic success, and personal growth.

As parents, we want to work together effectively through consistent communication, active involvement, and mutual support. Here are some key ways to foster this collaboration:

  1. Open Communication: Regularly scheduled meetings, such as parents evenings, curriculum evenings, trips and visits meetings and celebratory events, and continuous updates through newsletters, emails, social media and classcharts keep you as parents informed about your child's progress and school activities.

  2. Shared Goals: Aligning on educational objectives and behavior expectations ensures consistency between home and school environments, helping students understand and meet expectations.

  3. Support Systems: Providing resources and workshops for parents on topics like effective study habits, adolescent development, and mental health creates a knowledgeable support network for students.

  4. Feedback Mechanisms: Establishing channels for parents to provide feedback and suggestions helps schools improve their programs and address any concerns promptly.

  5. Positive Reinforcement: Celebrating student achievements together, whether academic, extracurricular, or personal milestones, reinforces a supportive and encouraging environment.

By working together, parents and schools can create a cohesive and nurturing atmosphere that promotes student success and well-being.

Communication

Communication is very important to us at Meridian High School and we very much value the feedback and kind comments we regularly receive from our parents and carers. Working collaboratively for our children is essential to the ongoing success of our school. Please find below a reminder of the communication processes we have in place for you.

Communication tree

We have a very clear communication process in place so that we are able to best support you. Unfortunately, we are unable to miss stages of our policy and must follow the structure in place. We always aim to resolve any concerns at stage 1 of our process however if you wish to escalate a concern to stage 2 you do need to submit the relevant paperwork outlining the cause for concern and the resolution you are seeking before a meeting will be arranged.

Similarly, we love to receive your positive comments and we share these with our staff who are working relentlessly to ensure our children are receiving the best education and support we can provide.

Statement of commitment

At Meridian High School, we want to ensure that as a school we work effectively with our parents and the local community to ensure all of our students success. We value the support and contribution that parents and carers make to children’s school life, both within and beyond the classroom. The Leading Parent Partnership award is founded on research, which shows that there is a very positive impact on achievement, behaviour and attendance in schools where parents are supported and therefore engaged in their children’s learning. Feedback from parents and carers is extremely important and we want to hear your views and improve our current practice.

We aim to:

• improve increased parental involvement in school life

• improve pupil progress

• improve punctuality

• improve attendance

• improve behaviour

We believe that it is important to support parents as their children transition through or between schools; we want to include all groups of parents in supporting their children’s learning and developing their own learning, take steps to ensure that our school is a welcoming, communicative and friendly place for parents, provide clear and accessible guidance to help parents support their children’s learning and development, produce parent-friendly policies to establish effective home–school links and provide clear guidance on the responsibilities of parents, school and pupils, and share this information with parents regularly.
