Year 8 Athletics Championships
On Wednesday our Year 8 students represented Meridian High and took part in the Year 8 Athletics Championships held at Croydon Sports Arena.
There were a lot of schools representing the borough Croydon on the day, but experience within the Championships was our main goal on this occasion.
The boys were ready to rumble; made up of: Henry Coffie, Brandon Hopper, Reon Bernard-Thompson, Samuel Conteh, Harvey Brunwin, Devanti Smith and Tyrese Anthony.
The girls were rearing to go with Katie Aveline, Alicia Hall, Aaliyah Reid, Bellanca Eduardo and Katie-Louise Beaney.
We took an energised and well spirited team of Year 8's and with a slight hint of nerves in the air, all they just wanted to do is run, jump and throw!
Our Year 8's did us proud! With some of them only being the first time they have ever competed or even been to a sporting championship of some kind, they gave it their all. Special mentions go to Tyrese Anthony on finishing 4th in the 80m Hurdles; Samuel Conteh on finishing 4th in the 300m and to our relay teams and the boys, narrowly, finishing 4th and our girls finishing in an improved 5th place.
With happy smiles and high 5's all-round the Year 8's thoroughly enjoyed it and were best pleased with their own performances.
Three cheers for Meridian High!
