Celebrating GCSE successes
Staff and students at Meridian High School were celebrating the Class of 2024 in achieving their GCSE results this year, with students making significant progress since their previous mock exams.
The New Addington-based high school, which received a Good Ofsted rating in January 2023 continues to make great strides in improving the attainment and outcomes of all children. With 66% of students now able to access their first-choice courses at their chosen sixth forms and colleges, Meridian continues to raise the ambitions of the children of the New Addington Community.
Among the top achievers, with two 9s and four 8s was Ujala Ahmad, who said: “I am extremely happy with my results. I joined the school in Term 2 of Year 10, so this is a fantastic achievement. I am now going to continue with triple science and maths at sixth form to ultimately pursue a career in science”.
Yazmin Ali has made great improvements this year achieving two 9s, two 8s and four 7s and will go onto study A Levels at Langley High in Biology, Psychology and Maths.
“I am very proud of what I have achieved, and I definitely made the right decision from moving from another school and joining Meridian in Year 9”
With 3 8s, six 7s and a Distinction, Head Girl Lexie Fitzpatrick hopes to eventually pursue a degree in Psychology after studying A Levels at Shirley High in Psychology, Business and Government & Politics. “I am really happy with my results”, said Lexie, “I would like to thank the school and all the teachers who helped me achieve these results. This has given me the platform to excel in the future.”
Other highfliers include Lacey Trigg with a 9, an 8 and six 7s; Faith Woods with a 9, two 8s, four 7s and a Distinction; and Kyle Leslie with a 9 and four 7s. After achieving a Distinction and five grade 7s, Ronnie Friend achieved the highest progress score in the year group, an achievement which he is incredibly proud of.
“Having faced so much disruption so early in their secondary educational experience, we are proud of our students for continually demonstrating our core values of resilience, ambition and respect”, said Headteacher Amy Anderson.
“We would also like to thank our parents and carers and the community for their support, as we continue to build on our successes through our team ethos and student-centred approach,” she added.
“We wish all of our students good luck on their future endeavours and building the future that they deserve.”
