Knowledge, Understanding and Skills

Our curriculum at Key Stage 3 focuses on ‘Health and Nutrition,’ where students begin their learning journey by acquiring essential skills needed to function safely in a food preparation environment. They gain an understanding of how lifestyle choices and dietary practices impact health and well-being, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their nutrition. Most importantly, students have the opportunity to prepare their own food, allowing them to apply their learning in a practical and engaging way. This foundational knowledge sets students up for more advanced studies in food science and nutrition in later stages of their education.

At Key Stage 4, students can progress to the Hospitality and Catering course, a combined Level 1 & 2 qualification equivalent to a GCSE. This course provides students with the opportunity to develop their abilities in planning, preparing, and presenting food suitable for the hospitality industry. Through hands-on experience, they refine their practical skills while gaining an in-depth understanding of industry standards, setting a strong foundation for further education and careers in hospitality and catering. The course also emphasizes the importance of customer service, food safety, and working under pressure, all vital skills in the hospitality sector.
