Ride London Update
Following the success of a pilot programme of 18 students last year, Teach First and Prudential, have joined up to provide an exciting national programme. Pru Goals is focused on raising aspirations and increasing self-esteem amongst young people through the power of sport. Meridian High School have been given the amazing opportunity of participating in this Prudential RideLondon event on 29th July, a 46 mile bike ride through the traffic free streets of London.
The PruGoals programme began with the launch event on March 1st. The twenty three MHS students who have taken on this challenge, travelled to Lee Valley Velopark, where two-time Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams opened the proceedings. Students were fitted with their custom made bikes as well as attending workshops on training, nutrition and personal wellbeing. Their first ride around the Olympic park left them feeling inspired to start their journey to the RideLondon event weekend. Saturday mornings are now associated with students arriving at school at 7.45 to participate in fitness and cycling skills sessions, safety briefings and team building exercises.
