MHS at Wembley
England vs. USA
On Thursday 15th Nov 23 students travelled to the home of football to watch a thrilling match versus the USA. The group met at East Croydon station and made the long journey across London to witness what will be England’s record goal scoring player take his last step onto the Wembley pitch.
We had fantastic pitch side seats overlooking the half way line from the 12 row. This gave us a fantastic angle to watch Jesse Lingard score a stunning opening first Goal! This was quickly followed by a very well work Trent Alexander-Arnold goal within 3 minutes. The first half continue at a high intensity with USA missing a few opportunities.
After a quick half time break we settled back into our seats for the second half. England continued to dominate the USA and the crowd continue to build a fantastic atmosphere! It was great to see so many schools supporting the match which took the total attendance up to over 65000. England sealed victory with a well taken third goal from Callum Wilson in the 77th minute which ended a very entertaining match. We left the game a few minutes early in an attempt to avoid the mass exodus and started the journey back towards London Bridge station.
I would like to thank all of the students for representing Meridian so well and for making the trip so enjoying. A special mention must also go to Mr Hield and Miss Harvey for helping to run the trip but also to Mr Costi for organising and leading this opportunity for students and staff.
It was a shame that Wayne Rooney didn't manage to get onto the score sheet in his last England game but it was a fantastic match and experience!
