Garden Trip to Sutton Community Farm
On Tuesday 1st May, the newest members of the Food Ambassador team were given the opportunity to visit Sutton Community Farm so that they could learn more about food growing. Throughout the morning we were given a tour of the beautiful space that Sutton Community Farm uses to grow and harvest their crops. The students were able to ask lots of questions about gardening techniques, how and when to get the best yield from different crops, as well as how much profit the farm makes from their produce. There are definitely some budding business men and women amongst our Food Ambassadors!
During the tour, the students were also able to taste some of the salad, edible flowers and vegetables that were growing on the farm. It was great to see so many of them trying new foods for the very first time and they all commented on how good it tasted.
At the end of the tour, the Ambassadors had the opportunity to get their hands dirty, helping the farm in sowing their next round of courgette plants before heading back to school. The students thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Sutton Community Farm and they are looking forward to putting all the things they learnt in to practice out in the school's edible garden during the course of the summer term.
